If you like my efforts at alliteration, then you’ll love Bourke St Bakery even more!
Bourke St Bakery is one of those destinations that must be ticked off your food list. Hidden in the leafy side of Surry Hills, it is definitely a fantastic place to get a really good cup of coffee and some delicious baked goods. Ranging from breads to tarts, everything in this little corner bakery is handmade and freshly baked, while most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. You’ll be sure to find some scrumptious and rustic takes on sweet and savoury favourites such as their ginger brulee tart and lamb, almond and harrisa sausage roll.
I recommend trying the chocolate and raspberry muffin, which is very moist and has a very generous amount of jam-packed ingredients. Being a sweet tooth, the ginger brulee tart is my go-to if I am in a really indecisive mood. It never fails to disappoint with its crispy layer of goodness on top of a creamy and zesty custard base. I’d also recommend their pork and fennel sausage roll. With its perfect golden pastry and well-marinated pork filling, it’s a very cheap option for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon snack. The portion sizes and prices at Bourke St are very reasonable and it has a great variety of goods to eat in or take-out such as their artisan sourdough loaves.
Their menu constantly changes every day, with mouthwatering daily specials, salads and different sourdough loaves for every day of the week. So if you are looking to try a particular loaf or salad, be sure to check their menu before you pop in.
