My New Year’s resolution at the start of 2015 was to go on a coastal walk at least once a week. Since the start of the year, I can safely say that I’ve successfully kept to that item on my checklist rain, hail or shine! I usually start off my evening coastal walks halfway between Maroubra and Coogee. The refreshing sea breeze and sounds of crashing waves never fails to relax me, even amidst the constant flurry of people half-jogging, sprinting or walking their highly enthusiastic dogs. Along the way, there are many fantastic baths such as Wylie’s Baths that are really good for those people who love to swim laps and McIvyer’s Baths that has an entry fee of only 20 cents (for women and children only). McIvyer’s Baths contains nice, green spots to lie down, read a book and sunbake. This hidden gem is also great to bring out your snorkelling goggles and swim amongst the mini crabs sneakily wedged between the rock crevices.

Whenever I hit the Coogee boulevard, I always visit MelonHead, a fantastic place to get freshly squeezed juices, smoothies or delicious pasta and yoghurt. I can never go past their young coconuts, which are reasonably priced at only $3.50. At this stage, my coconut flesh scooping skills are at professional level even only with the help of a flimsy plastic spoon. From there, I always head up past Gordon’s Bay and make my way to Clovelly, my favourite part of the coastal walk as the cliffs are such a good spot to really unwind, let go of any stress and just look out into the blue blanket of the ocean. For budding and passionate photographers out there, it’s also a great place to take stunning snaps of the ocean and unique rockpools. I definitely recommend trying the Coogee to Clovelly coastal walk, as it’s a perfect way to keep active, maintain a healthy mind and body and also have a deserved break after a long day at uni or work. It’s only a 1.5 hour walk to and from Coogee to Clovelly, and for those keen beans/fitness fanatics, you can even go further and walk to Bondi Beach. But make sure you bring lots of water, comfortable shoes and a floppy hat (especially if you choose to walk on hot days)!
