When I think of Passiontree Velvet, the first word that comes to mind is: exquisite. Located in the busy Macquaire Centre, it is an elegant, yet ultra-indulgent dessert oasis for every Sydneysider with a sweet tooth. Passiontree Velvet is definitely a triple threat in the café world as it is an English high tea house, Parisian patisserie and a Belgian chocolatier all in one.
On our last visit, we had the pleasure of tasting the strawberry dipping pot, smoked salmon and cream cheese baguette as well as the duchess full high tea set. The strawberry dipping pot and smoked salmon baguette are quite self explanatory but the duchess high set includes an assortment of ribbon finger sandwiches, home baked English scone, served with cream & jam and an array of high tea fancies. At $34.95 per person, Pasiontree Velvet’s high tea set is definitely affordable within Sydney considering the luxurious treats they offer. For me, it was the macaroons that especially stood out (salted caramel was a winner) with that great crispy shell and gooey caramel centre. Despite stuffing ourselves with all these sweet treats, we still needed to bring home a few more of their macaroons.
Overall, Passiontree Velvet offers great sweets with warm hospitality. It is a great addition to Sydney’s very long list of go-to dessert places and I wouldn’t mind travelling to Macquaire Centre to revisit.
