With the development of the economy, people can enjoy more colourful lives than ever before. However, we are also aware of climate change, environment pollution and our addiction to fossil fuel becoming even more serious. Recently, I have found a vibrant organisation named Transition Bondi which provides viable events and workshop to help people learn to find their ways through the resources that already exist. This organisation is a member of the global Transition Network which can lead us and our communities to give a sustainable, local and resilient response to these environmental challenges.
I have attended the Film & Feast event held by Transition Bondi on at “Chapel by the Sea”, Bondi Beach. The delicious homemade organic vegan dinner, inspiring documentary and vibrant discussion really gave me a lot of creative ideas on how transitioning in the daily life.
Firstly, this group encourages people to grow fruits and vegetables on their community gardens. They hope to help people to build up a new food – related enterprise. Secondly, they have set up a community relationship which focuses on working together, supporting each team member in case of the burnout with volunteering activities. The most interesting thing is that they also provide many fun “skill up power down” workshops to guide people on the way of transition. For instance, they hold monthly Free Bike Tweak Workshop and Free ‘DIG’ @ Community Garden at Bondi Beach to help people keep money local and boost resilience.
I have to admitted that the free environment in this weekly Film & Feast event not only gives me a great chance to relax myself but also helps me overcome the frustration caused by the gloomy predication for our future. Here is their website: www.transitionbondi.org. Hope more and more people will join them!
